NB Power's Proposed Solar Billing Changes: What New Brunswick Homeowners Need to Know
NB Power has filed proposed changes to solar net metering in New Brunswick with the NBEUB (Matter EL-003-2025). The proposal would replace 1-to-1 retail-rate net metering with a lower avoided-cost export credit of about 6.77 cents per kWh, add a new monthly demand charge of about $13 per kW based on peak 15-minute usage, and raise the commercial solar cap to 500 kW. An October 31, 2026 application approval deadline and October 31, 2027 inspection deadline would lock in the current rate for grandfathered customers until 2037. None of this is approved. Solar NB Solaire has registered as a formal intervenor.
